Lack of vision is probably the biggest reason why some gym goers never reach their goals; they give up, lose motivation and find excuses. Without motivation, the chances of success are extremely slim.
With crystal clear vision and determined action however, you’ll have everything you need to make anything possible. Here personal trainer, Nathan Jordine, reveals 7 simple steps you can take immediately to realise your fitness goals ...

All our deepest desires that come to reality stem from a vision, whether you realise it or not.
This vision helps us fight through the most troublesome of set-backs when you know where you want to be; you can see it in your mind, and you’ll be damned if anything stops you because you can FEEL how amazing it’s going to be once you’ve achieved your goal.
Some of us have the vision of our ideal partner, home, wedding or lifestyle, and so take the necessary steps to making it happen.
And when that vision is clear enough, followed by action, it happens. How many of us have thought this way about our weight-loss goals?
Have you ever taken the time to imagine yourself as a fit athlete winning that race? And do you really believe you can achieve the goal you’ve set?

If you don't truly believe it, how can you be motivated about something you don’t really believe will happen? This is why to be successful at anything, you need vision. Your vision reminds you why you’re going to the gym instead of staying on the sofa.
And it's belief in your vision that makes it easy to resist that chocolate bar. It’s the desire that makes you go the distance, get through that extra rep and then sweat out an additional session.
So when you say “I need to lose a stone”, that just doesn’t cut it for me. And I’ve heard it loads of times. Instead, when you want to lose weight, use your vision: How will losing those pounds make you feel? What will it do to your confidence? How will it impact your relationships? What will you be able to wear you don’t feel comfortable wearing now? Feel it, imagine it. How will it impact your life?
Here are 7 simple steps you can do right now to create and keep focus of your vision:
- #1 Hire A Trainer

Hire the services of a qualified and recommended personal trainer: Not to provide your workouts or to lose a few pounds, but because you know what you want, where you want to be and you want someone to guide you on the most effective path and progressive strategy to get there in the quickest time possible.
Someone who understands your vision and how much it means to you and who is genuinely as enthusiastic to make it come true; not someone who ignores what you say and just wants to drill you till you pass out.
- #2 Get A Game Plan
Don’t just say what you want to do with no idea when or how to start. Remember the saying, “fail to prepare and prepare to fail”.
If your plan is to join a gym, train three times a week, cut booze to one day a week, then write this down and take action one step at a time.
Once you complete one step, move on to the next, but do NOT try to do the whole list at one go.

- #3 Make It Visual:
Keep a visual representation of your vision: Use an old photo of yourself you like, or a photo of someone with your ideal physique and stick it on your fridge, save it to your phone or computer desktop – somewhere you will see it EVERY DAY.
Tucked away in your wallet or the back of your mind isn’t going to work.
- #4 Social Media
Follow your trainer or fitness specialist on Twitter, Vine or Instagram to get tips and ideas for meals, workouts and visual encouragement.

- #5 Surround Yourself With Like-minded People
If you have one set of friends who are out for drinks every weekend and eating fast food, and another set who are into fitness, eat healthily and workout, you might want to spend more time with the latter.
People who share the same values will support your vision. Those who don’t understand it, may put you down, make you feel like the odd one out and encourage unwanted habits.
- #6 Podcasts
Uplift your thoughts and actions from professionals and people who have achieved exactly what you are looking to do to improve your life. I highly recommend podcasts like:

- #7 Books
Keep inspirational lifestyle and nutrition books in your collection to help you with planning out and implementing your vision.
